Hunter Wallang

Obituary: Hunter Wallang - Brightwell Hunter was born in Shillong, Assam, June 9, 1933, and went to sleep in Jesus, July 18, 1937. He began attending Sabbath school more than one year ago and will be remembered by the missionaries who have spent their hill leaves in Shillong. He missed only one Sabbath during the past ten months, and that absence was due to illness. From October, 1936, until the day of his death he had studied his lesson every day. The morning of the day he passed away he learned his memory verse. The day before, he sang at the Sabbath school with his three sisters, "Shining for Jesus." No words could better express the purpose of his life than the title of that song. He was always shining for Jesus. On the top of his casket was his Sabbath school Perfect Record card. Nearly three hundred friends and relatives attended the funeral service which was held at the mission bungalow. Little Brightwell was laid to rest in the cemetery in Nongthymmai, Shillong, until the resurrection morning. O. W. Lange and L. R. Reiswig assisted at the service. --J. F. Ashlock

Papa's notes on his grandmother's death.
Memo No.: Our dear old grandmother Laduris expired on the 13th of Sep. 1928 (Thursday) at about 1 P.M. after he long illness which confined her to her sick bed for about 6 months. She was buried on the 14th (Friday) Sep. 1928. All the members of the family were present & all did their duty towards the deceased. The burial was indeed a very grand one, a crowd of about 200 souls followed the coffin while all the deceased's grandsons were by the side of the coffin. The Siem of Cherra was present on the occasion. The coffin was taken first into the church & from there to the grave-yard and the burial was finished by 6 or so. MCW 22/9/1928
